The Fifth Spain’s Open Go Tournament will take place on Saturday 30 October, Sunday 31 October and Monday 1 November, at the Círculo Catalán de Madrid, Plaza de España nº6, Madrid.

Saturday 30 October 2004

  • 11:00 - 13:30 h: Forum “Go and scientific investigation”. Members of the round table will be invited. Public: free attendance
  • 12:00 - 15:00 h: Registration
  • 15:30 h: Rules reading and tournament opening
  • 16:00 h: First game
  • 19:00 h: Second game

Sunday 31 October 2004

  • 09:30 - 11:30 h: Spanish Go Federation annual meeting
  • 12:00 h: Third game
  • 16:00 h: Fourth game
  • 19:00 h: Fifth game

Monday 1 November 2004

  • 11:00 h: Sixth game
  • 14:30 h: Closing, prize awards and aperitif

Tournament rules

The tournament will consist of six rounds, following the Mc Mahon system, expected bar in 2 dan. Japanese rules. 60 minutes for each player with byo-yomi of 20 stones in 5 minutes.

The Spain’s Go Open Tournament 2004 is open to all Go strengths and to all go players both from Spain and abroad.

Registering fees

  • Under 18: 15€
  • Participants under 16 kyu: 15€
  • Spanish Go Association members: 20€
  • Other participants: 26€

Registering will take place on Saturday “in situ” from 12:00 to 15:00. Nevertheless, it would be very kind of you if you send an e-mail stating your desire to register (see below), so that the assistance level can be foreseen.

Prizes

Various cash prizes will be awarded. They are not cumulative. The prizes initially expected are the following:

  • Winner: 500€
  • Second place: 300€
  • First spaniard: 200€
  • First classified under bar: 100€

There will be other prizes for players having won 6 or 5 games, and gifts for beginners.

Referees

The principal referee will be Mr Eduardo Catalina. There will be a second referee, yet to be commissioned.

Accommodation

The Organization Committee has started the proceedings to book a number of rooms in the Youth Hostel near Plaza de España in Madrid.

In addition, some member of the Go club Nam-Ban are offering lodging in their own houses.

And last, agreements will be established with a couple of hotels offering a good quality-price ratio, located near the tournament site.
